Jeep Cherokee & Commanche GM 4.3 V6 Engine Mounts PDF Installation Instructions
The engine mounts are designed for a direct bolt in conversion. The original 4 cylinder or V6 engine mounts must be removed and the new engine mounts bolted back into position using the original bolts. The stabilizer assembly on the driver’s side will need to be reinstalled to the new engine mounts. The engine location has been determined by using the original AX5 & 999 Torqueflite transmission positions and the appropriate Advance Adapter adapters.
You will require a slight modification to the crossmember bolts to accommodate the exact engine position. This usually entails elongating the bolt holes in the existing transmission support. Driveshaft modifications will not be required when using the original transmissions and the our conversion components. If a TH350, 700R-4 or TH400 transmission is going to be substituted for the original drivetrain, you should plan on driveshaft modifications and transfer case shifter control bracketry. The engine mounts will set the GM 4.3 V6 at a height that will allow for minimum hood clearance. Modification to the adapter ring that supports the air cleaner is needed on engines equipped with throttle body fuel injection. The mounts will position the engine so that there is minimum suspension clearance between the front suspension arms and lower engine mounts. The clearance will be approximately 2″. THESE MOUNTS REQUIRE A SUSPENSION LIFT TO OBTAIN ADEQUATE SUSPENSION TRAVEL.
The power steering pulley has minimum clearance around the steering mechanism of the Cherokee vehicle. The original 4 cylinder or V6 pulley can be reinstalled onto the 4.3 Chevy power steering pump. If this does not provide adequate clearance, there are pulleys available with a 4-1/4″ diameter that could be used. This pulley is available from Street & Performance in Mena, AK (501) 394-5711. This special pulley costs approximately $65.00 and can be purchased directly through this company. With the new engine position, you will be required to use an electric fan on the front side of the original radiator position.
