It’s Baseball Season!
I’m really not sure why November through March even exists. If it’s not baseball season, the whole world seems off. Sure, there are some sports thrown into the mix to keep us occupied, but nothing compares to the combination of baseball and summer time.
The following is a list of sports and “sports” that I have used to pass the time over the last several baseball-less months, in order from least to most favorite.
8. NASCAR – For the most part I can get the same satisfaction from watching a freeway traffic cam .
7. Soccer – Amazing athletes, amazing skills, play at an all out sprint for 90+ minutes…score once or twice a game. Meh.
6. College Sports (any of them) – For the same reason I prefer Celebrity Apprentice over Ordinary Dbag Apprentice…I don’t know college athletes, won’t know them after college, and thus just don’t care.
5. NBA Basketball – Anyone over 6′5″ can dunk a ball. I’d be more impressed if they could hit a free throw or play some ‘D’.
4. Olympics – I still don’t know what Curling is all about, but I know the captain of the Dutch women’s team is a topless model . And Shaun White is insane .
3. NHL Hockey – Fun sport. But the season is 13 months long! Also, you have teams called the Blue Jackets, Hurricanes, Coyotes, Wild, and Thrashers. Is this a Pee Wee league?
2. Golf – Always good for a nap on Sundays.
1. NFL Football – Simple. One day a week, 18 weeks. Each game means something. Fantasy Football is good.
And so we now wait for baseball season’s glorious arrival. I finally feel alive again. Giants and A’s rule, and I don’t have to pick a favorite until they both reach the World Series. And by current estimates, that likely won’t happen again in my lifetime so we’re good.
